About the Artist: Ray Gatica, Houston TX.

    Presently, Ray Gatica lives in Humble, Texas. A Texas native, he was born in Sinton, Texas. In the late sixties the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where, after graduating high school he attended Glendale Community College, Glendale Arizona where he started his art studies Art, Graphic Design and Life Drawing - studying the human form. He has continued his art studies by working as a commercial artist. During  the twenty years span as a commercial artist, he has been able to paint and experiment with assorted styles and mediums, techniques - allowing him to work and develop as an artist. 

    As a commercial artist he has painted custom Art, Murals and Big architectural graphics. These numerous works can be found in homes and business in Texas and Connecticut, where he has lived.     On Style: His personal style is considered Modern and Avant-Garde -New Deco. His art is heavily influenced by the Art Deco period. The art and themes include various forms of art i.e. Jazz, Music, Architecture, Haute Couture/Fashion and the ultimate art form - the ‘Human’ form. Gatica’s stylized, exaggerated male and female forms are distinctively Gatica. They are usually forefront and center of his Collectible Fine Art! Some of his influences are Erte, Vargas and Warhol His overall style is modern and contemporary.

    New Direction: Gatica’s specialty is painting with the airbrush. He started working the airbrush 25 years ago. Since then he has created art, illustrations and done assorted airbrush art for commercial and private clients over the years. More recently he has been exploring, working with painting on metal using automotive basecoats and polyurethane finishes. Gatica is excited about this new direction and feels he is creating his best airbrush art ever see Airbrushed Metal Art

    Digital Art Deco: Avant-Garde Art:
One of the high points in his life has been working with the computer to create Digital Art in the early nineties. From the moment he started working with the digital art programs he was challenged and excited, fascinated, as he embraced the technology and it capabilities. He found that it suited his temperament and style. The Digital Art (see Digital Art section reflect this period). He amusingly refers to this time in his life as the Digital Art Period...Hey, Vangogh. had his Blue Period - he quips. Gatica continues to work with the airbrush, and assorted graphics and painting programs on his PC.
